Congratulations to the 2018 winners, MGM Wireless and Redarc Electronics, the finalists and the shortlisted entries.
Thankyou to the thirteen judges based in Asia, Australia, Europe, North America who had the difficult task of judging the high quality and diverse entries representing 3 South Australian regions,17 industry sectors and collectively exporting to over 150 countries.

REDARC Electronics
Entry: Design Strategy
Category: Products - Automotive & Transport
REDARC has adopted and developed a strategic plan involving 15% of sales revenue being invested back into research and development. A number of structures and methodologies such as PDM and company-wide project management systems have been implemented in order to develop successful global and local products for varying customer demands in an efficient and timely manner.
Design Challenge
The core differences between designing for Australia and for International markets are compliance and legislative requirements, environmental considerations, differences in user preference and scalability of design and manufacture. As many REDARC products are designed for automotive, particularly OEM, applications for the compliance requirements are stringent which can increase both design and validation timelines. Varying environmental and user preference requirements can also impact projects as these regional variances increase the overall range of required performance for a successful global product. Finally, consideration for future volume increases is paramount to successfully launching into larger markets and sustaining the ever-growing product demands.
Design Solution
REDARC has always employed a structured product development process, historically this has been focussed on design for local markets. To better service global design requirements several new processes have been incorporated into the REDARC system. The development of a global, OEM level test standard ensures that our products are designed to the most stringent standards. Detailed market research and customer requirement discovery processes allow us to identify market specific functionality demands and the adoption of modular design principles allows us to separate core fundamental functions from those designed for specific market requirements which increases flexibility and reduces time to market.
Design Impact
The implementation of global product development procedures provides a focussed approach from staff at all levels within the business, with the correct assistive development tools implemented, the challenge seems to bring out the best in people. The resultant products are often not only suitable for export markets but allow us to approach local customers at an OEM and Defence level. This then elevates the REDARC brand and increases the perceived value of our standard product offerings.

REDARC’s path towards product design for global markets started a number of years ago and has evolved through many decisions and events throughout this time. The journey started with a decision to enter global markets, an export business & marketing plan and the definition of strategic business goals related to growth and investment both locally and globally. REDARC corporate metrics include: • 35% of sales revenue will come from products released within the previous 3 years, achieved 5 years running. • Growth target of greater than 20% YoY, exceeded 15 years running. • 15% of revenue to come from export markets by 2020, on target to realise this goal. Key to our development of the right product is understanding our market and customer needs. To ensure this understanding within the business REDARC have: • Engaged Fraunhofer (Germany) to conduct an Industry 4.0 audit, and • Produce both Product and Technology roadmaps spanning the next 5 years and beyond • Become an active member of key market industry associations such as CIVD, RVIA, RVDA, SEMA, NATM and NATDA. As a result of global focus and dedication to growth REDARC now exports to over 35 countries and has recently committed to major distribution channels in the US.

SPACETALK by MGM Wireless

SPACETALK is an all-in-one children’s smartphone, watch and GPS tracker that allows parents and primary school aged children to be in constant contact without exposing kids to the dangers of social media apps or the internet. It keeps busy families connected and kids safe.
Design Challenge
SPACETALK was conceptualised from MGM’s longstanding school communication and absence management business which has been used by over 2000 schools in Australia and New Zealand. MGM pioneered the use of SMS messages to inform parents that their child hadn’t arrived at school. These messages have parents asking: ‘Where is my child?’ After trying to solve this problem for over 10 years, we hit upon the extremely ambitious idea of building an all-in-one mobile phone, watch and GPS for kids. We focused on reliability, safety and security. After four years of development here in SA, building several prototypes that we couldn’t get to work reliably, we finally discovered how to build this product well. This involved designing and developing the hardware, firmware, apps and server software – the whole ecosystem. SPACETALK successfully launched in October 2017 and sales continue to grow quickly
Design Solution
Parents hesitate to buy their kids a smartphone due to the risks of social media, potential privacy breeches, cyber bullying and the risk of children losing or breaking an expensive device. At the same time, parents want to stay connected to their kids and they want to know that their kids are safe. We identified the need for a small, wearable mobile phone and GPS device for children that was safe, secure and had no open access to the internet. SPACETALK is controlled by a parent’s phone using the AllMyTribe app. Parents customise and configure all of the settings on their child’s SPACETALK and predefine who they can call and who can call them. SPACETALK has no social media apps to distract children, and an integrated step counter encourages kids to get moving. SPACETALK’s privacy and data security features are second to none. It has been tested by independent Cyber Security experts to ensure all our claims were validated, and that SPACETALK would meet the tough new European GDPR requirements – which it does. We want to give kids the freedom to be kids and the confidence to adventure and explore.
Design Impact
SPACETALK is a highly reliable and dependable device. It’s proven to keep kids safe and families connected. Other benefits include: 1. Giving kids confidence to be independent – kids report that they feel confident and safe to do things alone as they know their parents know where they are and can contact them at any time. 2. Children and Parents staying connected throughout the day E.g. SMS like ‘Goodnight Mum/Dad – I love you’ are something that parents and children love sending to each other, especially if they are separated. 3. Ability for families to more efficiently manage time. E.g. – change in pickup times and locations. The global market potential for SPACETALK is very large. Gartner Research is forecasting that 30% of all smartwatches sold will be to children in the 2 to 13-year-old range, and by 2021 the market size for smartwatches will be $17.4 billion. In Australia – this translates to the market size for kid’s smartwatches to be 120,000 to 180,000 units annually.

SPACETALK is the first device of its kind to be developed in Australia and one of the first worldwide. SPACETALK is considered by the industry to be the best kids smartphone watch on the market. Other features include: 3G Phone (2 way)* Make and receive phone calls to and from a set of parent-controlled contact numbers. SMS Messaging* SMS messages can be sent and received from contacts you allow through the app. GPS Tracking* Parents can view their child’s location on demand and location history using the AllMyTribe app. AllMyTribe app* Available for iOS and Android, allows parents to control all devices in one easy to use app. Social Media Free SPACETALK is a smart phone with no open access to the internet, and no social media apps to distract kids from the real world. School Mode Silence SPACETALK during class to avoid distracting the child and others. High Security Privacy and security is assured. All data is hosted in Australia in highly secure data centres. SOS Alerts A dedicated SOS alert button can be programmed to call a sequence of guardians and even local emergency authorities. Safe Places Safe zones can be setup with customisable alerts to inform you when the child arrives and departs these zones. 40+ Hour Battery Actual battery life will depend on location update settings and time spent on calls. Overnight charging is recommended. Step Counter An integrated fitness tracker with voice feedback monitors the child’s physical activity. Alarm Clock Set multiple alarms or reminders to prompt your child enabling them to become more responsible. Stopwatch The Stopwatch function comes with a lap timer, so your child can measure their progress for training and competitions. Torch Turn on the Torch and SPACETALK emits a bright light, enough for your the to find their way around in a dark room. Water Resistant SPACETALK is dust, splash and water resistant but not swim proof. Tested to IP54.

FINALIST _ Hexcyl Pro-Series Shellfish Baskets by Hexcyl Systems

The Hexcyl Pro Series range of shellfish baskets are designed to maximize the efficiencies inherent in the adjustable longline oyster farming system and have been purpose built to withstand the day to day rigors of repetitive handling and relentless effects of constant exposure to the harsh marine environment.
Design Challenge
Choosing impact resistant, UV stable materials with the ability to cope with the rigors of regular handling and constant exposure to the elements is the foundation on which the integrity of the Hexcyl Pro Series shellfish basket design rests. The harshness of the marine environment required selection of materials with unique characteristics capable of withstanding the extremes of heat, subzero temperatures and wind generated wave energy common to many shellfish farming locations around the world. Incorporating the design of Hexcyls' unique patented square axle pivot bank and J-hook connection system was essential to ensuring catastrophic component wear was eliminated in the Pro- Series product range.
Design Solution
Combining robust material selection for longevity with design consideration for simplicity of assembly, ease of use and efficiency of stacking, storage and day to day handling provided the design solutions for the Pro-Series product range . The injection molded components consist of a pair of suspension clips, body halves and end doors. The hexagonal basket shape produces a structurally robust geometry ideally suited to the daily demands required for load, space and handling efficiency. The interlocking basket creates an extremely efficient, stable stacking pattern for storage and transportation of baskets to and from the farm. Locking the suspension clip in the upright operating position eliminates all unnecessary wear leading to catastrophic component failure at this connection point.
Design Impact
One of the key design elements not to be overlooked is the conscious effort the Hexcyl design team have made to ensure that all materials selected are fit for purpose to be used in the marine environment. Extended product life ensures our product range does not have built in redundancy (planned obsolescence) that would require a product such as ours to prematurely enter the waste stream which in turn adversely affects both the marine and terrestrial environments. For shellfish farmers product longevity makes both economic and environmental sense.
Other Key Features
Three injection molded components are paired and clipped together by hand for simplicity of assembly. The injection molded components consist of a pair of suspension clips, 2 x body halves and 2 x end doors. Tailoring the volume of the Hexcyl Pro-Series shellfish basket to 25 litres ensures that oyster farmers achieve the most economic and efficient carrying capacity per individual basket handling. The comprehensive range of Pro-Series shellfish baskets available in 3, 5, 10, 15 and 20mm square mesh apertures are designed to meet the needs of shellfish farmers to efficiently house single seed oysters from 4mm screen size spat right through to 160+ mm mature stock. The 25 litre basket dimensions allow for a design load of 7 - 10kg to maximize the safe load bearing capacity of the adjustable longline infrastructure while meeting OH&S requirements. The super-efficient nesting of the basket body and end doors enables 15 complete 25 litre shellfish baskets sets to be packaged per carton. The carton dimensions allow for a maximum of 24 cartons (360 baskets) per pallet providing the most cost effective configuration available for warehousing, transportation and container shipping. The unique duel suspension clip design prevents baskets from sliding along the adjustable line whether orientated in the standard linear fashion or attached across a set of parallel lines. The square axle pivot bank and J-hook connection system allows for any number of custom attachments to be designed and fitted for inter-tidal, sub-tidal or floating applications.

FINALIST _ Edison Educational Robot by ARID Andrew Rogers Industrial Design

Andrew Rogers Industrial Design facilitates entrepreneurs via research, design, engineering, tooling, production, logistics and quality control, we provide design and manufacturing solutions from concept to point of sale, and our extensive range of services cover specialist hand crafted single items to full mass production, Edison is one example of more than 300 products that ARID has taken from concept to point of sale over the past 30 years, the products range in complexity and size ARID endeavours to engage in projects that make a difference in people’s lives while returning profits to stakeholders.
Design Challenge
Edison is a programmable robot designed to be a complete STEM teaching resource for coding and robotics education for students from 4 to 16 years of age. The Edison robot is a powerful, engaging tool for teaching kids computational thinking and computer programming in a hands-on way. With more built-in sensors than any robot in its class as well as lights, sounds and autonomous behaviour capabilities, Edison makes true robotics education accessible to students of all ages. Not just a remote-controlled robot, Edison can: • Respond to light and sound • Follow lines and avoid obstacles • Communicate with other Edison robots • Connect to other Edison robots and LEGO bricks All these features were required to be designed into an extremely strong and versatile self-contained solution that could be shipped to most countries around world delivered to the door for less than $50.00 USD less than 25% of the cost of the nearest competitor.
Design Solution
The result is Edison a super affordable programmable almost indestructible Lego compatible robot. Lego has effectively become an industrial standard for construction blocks, more than 15 visions are made by various manufactures, and it is used almost universally in schools around the world for teaching basic engineering principles. Lego manufacture their own programmable module that sells for approximately $1000.00 per student set and takes a minimum of 4 hours preparation time before it can be shared by students. Edison provides a market alternative that disrupts the current STEM robotics education a business model in a number of ways. It is cheap enough for each student to have their robot The robot can be used within 20 seconds of opening the box The robots interact with each other to encourage cooperation between students The robot is very strong and outlasts many of it more expensive competitors The robot is instantly engaging for students and has demonstrated better STEM learning outcomes

Edison Robot and Edison EdCreate expansion kit have been sold in more than 23 countries around the world and have become a standard for the a number of states in the USA and UAE school’s curriculum, since the launch of Edison 4 years ago we have seen a sustained year on year sales growth of %50, more than 200,000 Edison robots have been sold around the world.

ARID provides a turnkey solution from design concept to fished solution delivered to the distribution centre in Hong Kong. All research and development is completed in South Australia, this includes design prototyping, testing and ongoing quality control and continuous improvement product support, and this has resulted in an outstanding high quality product for our customer and ARID doubling the size of its full time workforce.

The d’Arenberg Cube by d’Arenberg

THE d'ARENBERG EXPERIENCE - MORE THAN A CELLAR DOOR.
The d’Arenberg Cube is a five storey multi-function centre and tourism destination. Inspired by the complexities and puzzles of winemaking, Chester Osborn designed a cube-shaped building. Opened in 2017, the d'Arenberg Cube offers an indulgent, artistic and informative journey into the depths of d’Arenberg’s viticulture and winemaking.
Design Challenge
d'Arenberg's previous tasting room and renowned restaurant, d’Arry’s Verandah, housed in the original Osborn family homestead have been popular for years. Due to the small size of the building, both facilities were always fully booked and people were turned away. There were many limitations to increase visitation and to provide premium wine experiences.
Design Solution
Chester Osborn came up with an idea to cater for a larger influx of visitors by creating a unique Cube shaped five storey multi-function centre. The design was complex and difficult, it took many years of Chester Osborn meeting with architects and engineers to arrive at an agreed Cube puzzle/pattern design, as the stories twist. Each of the five levels have been carefully designed to entice and excite the senses. Everything about the d'Arenberg Cube challenges convention. Since opening on 14 Dec 2017, the d'Arenberg Cube has attracted 84260 (same period last year = 30899)
Design Impact
The d'Arenberg Cube has had a social impact, with providing people with a unique and memorable experiences. 153 jobs were created during the build (SA businesses) en route to creating 58 new jobs. d’Arenberg employs over 180 staff, making it one of the largest employers in the McLaren Vale region. The tourism benefits are far reaching, with an expected increase in visitation, to d'Arenberg and the McLaren Vale wine region equating to an increase in sales, more grapes purchased in the area, more economic activity, as well as more work for suppliers and contractors etc.
Other Key Features
The d’Arenberg Cube is a five storey multi-function centre that appears to be floating among the vines. The d’Arenberg Cube houses the winery’s cellar door, state of the art kitchen, private tasting areas, an immersive art gallery, as well as a restaurant that offers luxury food and wine experiences that challenge convention. Inspired by the complexities and puzzles of winemaking, Chester created the idea of a cube-shaped building. Each of the five levels have been carefully designed to entice and excite the senses, including features such as, a virtual fermenter, a 360° video room, and many other tactile experiences. Other unique features include, umbrellas that shade the roof, interesting toilets and a stairwell clad with mirrors, grape bunch light fixtures, and caricatures of the wine names.  

GO Micro Clip-on Phone Microscope by GO Micro

GO Micro Clip-on Phone Microscope turns your phone into a microscope. It is easy to use, low cost, and lightweight, working with most phones, iPads, and tablets.
Design Challenge
GO Micro Clip-on Phone Microscope is low cost, light, easy to use capable of capturing quality images with minimum distortion and uniform lighting derived out of the phones flash light capable of working a wide range of phones, iPad and tablets. It was designed for a very wide range of applications from education, to health for users from  4 to 90 year olds.
Design Solution
Rather than using a bulky external lighting source, we optically engineered a reflector to diffuse and e-direct the phone-flashlight to create uniform studio quality lighting. The clip was designed to fit a wide range of devices and the reflector was designed to be rotatable so that it can be positioned under the flash light.
Design Impact
South Australian Research and Developing Institute distributed 200 GoMicros to farmers to help identify insects. It is being tested out in Ethiopia to diagnose a deadly disease – Leishmaniasis. A version of it is being evaluated by Mole Check Australia for diagnosing skin cancer. Many schools in Australia are now using it to engage young learners with the mysteries of the world around them. It is being sold in Exploratorium – the popular science museum in LA, in the MIT Museum in Boston and Questacon in Canberra. It is being used in the  Galapagos Island and Chile to scientific exploration.
Other Key Features
GO Micro Clip-on Phone Microscope is made with direct digital manufacturing, enabling us to iterate it rapidly. We have now developed a version that will magnify 200 times and also a version for analysing skin moles.  Except for the lens and a standard rubber grommet holding the top lens the rest of the parts are 3D printed and laser cut. The entire product is fabricated without investment in moulding. All jigs for manufacturing and assembly were also laser cut or 3d printed. The extensive use of 3D printing and laser cutting makes this product evolvable, enabling us to customize it for a very diverse range of applications.

ThermoBrush by ThermoBrush

ThermoBrush is the worlds only company manufacturing a brush designed specifically to clean the Thermomix® blades. Founded in December 2016 by the inventor/CEO Mrs Jade Kuhn. ThermoBrush is operated solely by Jade, from a rural town in South Australia. ThermoBrush has been the recipient of numerous awards for product innovation/design.
Design Challenge
After purchasing a Thermomix® in 2014, I soon discovered that the blade system was not that easy to clean. After much research, I saw a gap in the market, and an opportunity for a specifically designed brush to clean the blades. I discovered that most people were using disposable mascara brushes! 90% of those brushes being used only once and then ending up in landfill. This was not good on the environment, and was still time consuming to clean the blade. There was a need for a more hygienic, and reusable brush.
Design Solution
My vision for the ThermoBrush was very clear from the start. I wanted a brush that was easy to use, and that gave the gap in the blade a superior clean. The brush was designed to mould around the base of the blade, making it an easy, one-motion cleaning step. The food grade rubber over mould was chosen over bristles, as it is more hygienic and has less flicking mess when cleaning the food. My first prototype was made from my children's craft box, and it is the same design and shape of the ThermoBrush today! But with a lot less sticky tape!
Design Impact
The brush needed to be food grade, and of high quality. I recognised the importance of supporting the local manufacturing industry, an industry which has been in decline over recent years. I work closely with our South Australian manufacturer, to produce a superior product. Cresta Plastics is now able to grow their business alongside ours, and their commitment to scale production capacity as we grow is outstanding. Supporting locals is a huge passion.
Other Key Features
Since our launch, we have had local, national and international companies contact us to wholesale our product. Thermomix® Australia, Thermomix® South Africa and Thermomix® Denmark all stock and supply our ThermoBrush to their customers. We are currently in talks with 3 new Thermomix® companies, and writing up contracts to wholesale our brush. Since our launch in 2016, we have had a retail growth rate of 80% in 2017. Our wholesale product growth has increased by 8000% Our recent launch to Amazon and exporting to UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain, this has seen an increase in international sales, with Europe outselling Australia 12/1.

Replacement Switch Fascia for the popular Ford Ranger vehicle by Lightforce Australia Pty Ltd

Ford Ranger - one of the #1 selling vehicles in Australia and   sold in 180 countries worldwide has a design flaw - there is no where to   locate switching for all your 4WD accessories - such as lights, winches,   break controllers, UHF Radio - so Lightforce designed one. Originally to   house switching for auxiliary spot lights, but soon became popular for REDARC   customers among others.
Design Challenge
Design a replacement fascia that fits perfectly into the vehicle, reuses all key components such as the 12V charging sockets and can house a number of accessory switches with ease, and look like an OEM factory replacement.
Design Solution
This replaces the existing fascia that is located in the central lower dash that has the 2 12v outlets and is compatible with all 37 PX MK2 models and the 3 Everest models and has an Australian design patent. The fascia is a direct replacement injected moulded ABS/PC panel, with zero modification to the existing surrounding console, maintaining the OEM look of the vehicle. It will accommodate 3 standard OEM style switches.
Design Impact
The Ford Ranger and Everest models are sold in 180 countries around the world and will be released into the USA market in January 2019. The Switch Fascia designed by Lightforce provides a seamless and professional look to the vehicle whilst accommodating additional accessories.
Other Key Features
Fascia finish is matte black, installation takes approximately 30 minutes (excluding accessories) and only requires a 7mm ring spanner and medium screwdriver as the surrounding panels simply pull off (a little force is required as each panel has at least 6 retaining clips). The fascia relocates in the exact same mounting points as the original, so no additional fixtures or adhesives are required. The 2 existing 12v outlets will need to be removed from the original fascia and refitted into the new fascia that incorporates the switches. This is where the medium screwdriver is required. In addition to the switch blank and switch, our optional dual 2.1-amp USB charger is also compatible with this fascia.

Compact LED Driving Lights for the SUV market by Lightforce Australia Pty Ltd

Australian designed, engineered and manufactured Striker® LED Driving Lights. Compact in size, but not in performance. With a stylish rectangular form factor for a cool look on any 4X4, SUV and some passenger vehicles.
Design Challenge
Our designers considered the latest vehicle headlight designs, the configuration of the many bull bars and nudge bars on the market, and the increased popularity of lower profile, low hoop bumper designs when they were designing the Striker® LED. The new look Striker® LED, with its low-profile rectangle shape and subtle curves complements the angular lines of many modern headlights. It also looks great on vehicles with circular headlights, providing contrast in design. The light must still maintain an IP69k rating, EMC shielding, achieve light output 700m plus to 1 Lux and be 1kg or under (to mount to nudge bar tabs).
Design Solution
The Striker® LED is best in class amongst the field of compact driving lights. Whilst only 60 watts per light, they pack a punch with light output, delivering 1 lux at 754 metres per pair. That’s around 30 to 50% further than many similar lights on the market. Designed, engineered and manufactured in Australia, not only does the Striker® LED need to cope with our harsh conditions, it must also meet those of our partners in the USA, Sweden and the many other countries we export to, where temperatures range from 40 degrees below freezing to scorching conditions well over 40 degrees Celsius
Design Impact
Historically, for driving lights, Lightforce would never consider any shape but round, as our parabolic reflectors project the maximum light available. Any change, such as the cutting off the top and bottom to create a rectangular shape, would impact the light output, beam pattern and lux distance. Lightforce have always been about performance and quality... so we weren’t going to compromise on that. With the introduction of LED technology this barrier to performance has now been resolved and high-performance LED driving lights can now be built in many shapes including LED Light Bars, round lights and the utility lights we produce today.

Brackets and mounting options - The unique bracket system of   Lightforce lights has been carried across the latest lights in our range   including the HTX, Genesis LED, Venom LED and now the Striker® LED. Made from   a composite glass-filled nylon, they can withstand greater vibration than   other types of brackets. But the design thinking doesn’t just stop at the   material. The brackets are also reversible, which gives you flexibility to   position the light according to the fitment constraints. Filters – modular   and reversible Lightforce’s unique modular filter system has been carried   over to the new Striker® LED. There are three filters available: • A spot   filter comes standard with each Striker® LED and delivers a virtually   unaltered beam. It protects your light’s lens. • A combo filter disperses   some of the light into a wide (letterbox) beam pattern aiding peripheral   vision on windy roads and 4WD applications, and • A flood filter, which   further disperses the light into a ‘ball’, suitable for campsites, workshops   and high-performance scene lighting. Striker® LED lights can also be mounted   ‘upside down’ in pendant style, and to ensure they look the right way up, you   simply spin the lens filter around.

Staminalift TS6000 Bed Mover by Staminalift International Limited

STAMINALIFT
Reducing healthcare workplace injuries – that is what StaminaLift is about. Moving patients in beds and stretchers, and staff manually moving heavy objects, contributes to the annual $20B cost to the global healthcare community at large. StaminaLift is recognised for developing ways to safely and securely connect to nearly any globally available bed or stretcher and easily transport patients from one area of the hospital to another.
Design Challenge
To accommodate the many different designs and models of Beds and stretchers in the Healthcare Industry whilst being aware of maneuverability in confined areas and elevators.
Design Solution

Designed for injection of liquid nutrients directly into the furrow our products deliver benefits in nutrient use efficiency, enhanced soil health, crop disease prevention and improved productivity to our customers around the world.
Design Challenge
Farming is an input-intensive industry. Efficient fertiliser utilisation is critical for farmers and becoming increasingly important for global food security. With greater environmental regulation of farming also on the horizon, accuracy and uniformity of fertiliser application at seeding is essential. With no universal liquid application equipment able to accurately deliver multiple liquids in one pass on the market, our challenge was to design products capable of applying fertilisers and other nutrients precisely, uniformly and reliably to maximise their effectiveness in all operating and environmental conditions. With hundreds of different brands of planters & seeders in use around the world the products also needed to be adaptable for installation on any kind of tillage equipment.
Design Solution
Liquid Systems (SA) embarked on an extensive R&D program to overcome the design challenge. Our Precision In-furrow Liquid Application System was the end result. A total system solution consisting of Single and Dual Rate Control Modules and “Stacker” Distribution Systems incorporating our own custom designed injection moulded components. With slow pace of embracing new technology in agriculture new products must be designed to be integrated into existing equipment. Our products can be factory installed on new equipment or retrofitted on existing machinery. Our custom designed wiring harnesses provide seamless integration with many of the industry’s leading brands of Precision Ag field computers. Key design considerations included delivery accuracy & uniformity, reliability, adaptability, safety and ease of use for the operator.

Impact of our products has been positive and wide ranging from a commercial, environmental and cultural perspective. The ability to deliver a precise amount of fertiliser where it’s needed most reduces both the amount of fertiliser required and the effort needed to apply the fertiliser. As well as improved productivity for the farmer, there are flow-on benefits for the environment with reduced waste and runoff into waterways. Our products are contributing significantly to the development of liquid fertiliser industry and a cultural shift away from granular to liquid fertilisers in the markets we serve. Farmers were experimenting with home-made or inferior quality equipment made using off the shelf parts with minimal accuracy and control. Our products have been engineered with high quality components to inject multiple liquids in one pass at set rates under controlled positive pressure all the way to the furrow. HMPS Modular Frame Architecture (packaging machinery made standard) by HMPS

HMPS has developed a modular design which allows for benefits on multiple layers. For HMPS it means we are able to produce packaging machinery which is more cost effective and offers a faster turnaround. For customers it means flexibility which allows them to be fit for future.
Design Challenge
HMPS was initiating new designs which involved cost and time on an ongoing basis. We identified the need for a standardised design. On the other hand we had customers who wanted to start automating earlier in the process and with a smaller budget. The result was a standardised machine design in a modular format with the cost benefit to allow for smaller producers to start benefiting from automation.
Design Solution
The new design allows the customer flexibility. Future retro fitting within similar sizes ranges are possible. Three frame sizes will be available to allow future expansion for the customer. One of the key design elements is the visibility of the machine. Fault finding is a lot easier as the machine will light up in the area where the problem has occurred. The inner workings it off the ground allowing for easy of access, a safer operating environment for the operator and a clear walkway. A washdown version is available allowing for hygienic operation which is sealed or easily cleanable. Finite Element Analysis was completed on the standard parts and HMPS understand the vibration and harmonics of the machine at various loads. This allows for a frame with less movement, a safer operating environment and a longevity of the product. Because these studies are already completed, the customer can look forward to a high quality product manufactured in a short period of time.
Design Impact
The new machine was launched at Propak Asia 2018 during June and   received considerable interest from the local market to appreciate the quick   turnaround, future flexibility and cost competitiveness of the product. For   HMPS it has mean a considerable commercial advantage as the standardised   product and processes has streamlined our design and assembly and allows us   more time to spend on customised designs for larger manufacturers while still   servicing the smaller manufacturers with a quality product. Our machines are   fitted with HMPSConnect, our IoT solutions so that manufacturers in remote   areas or out of Australia can receive the same amount of technical support as   local customers.

Australian manufacturing is competing on an international basis. Many machine builders in Europe and the USA already offer standardised options but at a high price tag. As we envisage a considerable uptake from Asia for this product, we were conscious of the cost and time factor involved and it has been designed specifically with these smaller producers in mind. The new product allows us to be more cost and time competitive while still offering customisation to customers who want to start automating earlier in the production process. HMPS feels that this solution will assist Australian manufacturing to better compete on a global scale. In terms of the HMPS brand identity the highly visible fault finding mechanism and clean design strengthens our brand recognition and offers a unique selling proposition which differentiates us from the competitors. The fact that the machine lights up allows for reduced time in fault finding – a design with beauty and brains! Because of the scalable design options, it provides aesthetically pleasing design for the factory floor in that all machines are standard and uniform and present well on the floor. The design brief was instigated due to consumer demand for an evaporative cooler that could be installed below a roof ridgeline. Additionally, new housing developments are developing specific regulations to prevent the installation of any roof mounted equipment that is visible above a roof ridgeline. Specific design brief challenges: • Design a low profile compact cabinet that sits below a roof ridgeline • Cabinet height to be equivalent to competitor cooler • Attractive unique styling required to give point of difference > develop a low profile, sloped tank cooler that met measurement dimensions that needed to outperform competitor models • Quiet operation

RedVision is a central hub that connects devices and displays vital information for an RV and all its on-board accessories, setting an unprecedented level of automation in the RV industry. RedVision controls lighting, inverters, water management and other accessory loads then supplies feedback displaying levels, energy consumption and power storage.
Design Challenge
The design brief for RedVision focused on a two-tiered approach of simplifying recreational vehicle power and control for the consumer and installer. We wanted the consumer experience to be simple and valuable. Proving the ability to control all powered and power related devices through a single platform that is intuitive to operate and easy to access. The installer experience needed to reduce installation complexity, be easily scaled and customised to each customer requirement whilst meeting stringent quality and reliability requirements, making the product suitable for the worlds harshest off-road conditions and provide the end user an effective experience.
Design Solution
RedVision provides the consumer with a simple to use display and controller which is mounted in the caravan or camper. The display informs the consumer of the status of vehicles electronic systems and allows control of connected devices. This is coupled with a fully synchronised iPhone or Android application allowing the user full wireless functionality of the product. RedVision provides the installer with a single platform to control power distribution and circuit protection which is designed for simplicity of wiring and a massively reduced installation time. Both the display and the main unit are ruggedized for the worlds harshest conditions.
Design Impact
RedVision simplifies control and monitoring of a recreational vehicles electrical systems, allowing the consumer to spend more time focusing on their holiday and less time worrying about their vehicle. RedVision integrates seamlessly with a variety of products, providing a method of penetrating existing markets further and allowing exploration into new markets. The platform also reduces installation complexity, therefore reducing install time (by half or up to 4 hours in some instances) and increasing profit margins for our installers. Less cabling, more efficient use of power and integration with clean energy sources make RedVision an environmentally friendly option.

Simplicity and solid design principles coupled with a clear vision for the end result were paramount in achieving such a positive outcome. With the need for drilling companies to reduce costs in order to remain competitive in the market place, it's imperative that the consumables they're using are being utilised to their full potential. The challenge is to create a drill bit that increases productivity, performs well and lasts longer...and more importantly, for the right price.

Aviation Rivet Hole Alignment Tool by Precise Global

A faster and more accurate alternative to curret Rivet replacement practices, ( particularly on Airframes ). The Rivet Hole Alignment Tool has the advantage of reducing the demands on the technician whilst eliminating errors related to drill or reamer alignment and centering.
Design Challenge
In discussions with BAE Systems, who have the contract to maintain Australia's fleet of Jet Trainers, it was lamented that the repair cost and preventative maintenance cost on Airframes was significant due to the skill level required in the technicians performing Rivet replacement and the high incidence of hole and panel damage due to mis aligned holes caused by taking out the existing Rivet and sizing the holes exactly. Could a device be designed that allowed the exact Rivet centre to be found, irrespective of location on Airframe, allowing accurate removal of existing rivet and accurate sizing of hole for Rivet replacement. This issue was industry wide both in the military as well as commercial and private fleets.
Design Solution
The Rivet Hole Alignment Tool our design team came up with, ( with input from BAE ), is a hand-held tool for the alignment of drills/reamers on structures requiring high dimensional tolerance and/or precise positioning of drilled features, for example aircraft structures. The fully adjustable tool is aligned precisely with the rework hole in terms of position and orientation, locked in place and then used to guide commercially available hand-held drills or reamers such that holes can be reliably drilled or reworked in very small increments and to precise tolerances. The tool can be attached to any near flat surface on the rework article at any orientation, including perpendicular and upside down, without the need for additional clamping mechanisms. It is powered by common workshop air supplies and is compatible with standard fittings. Consumables for the tool are inexpensive and simple to manufacture.
Design Impact
Aircraft repair and life extension programs both current and future exist throughout the aircraft industry as worldwide military and civil fleets get older and the Rivet Hole Alignment Tool is perfect for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of such programs. The tool also has potential application outside the aircraft industry where fatigue or weight consideration demand precise hole tolerances or where the costs of rectification or repair are high, such as high performance land and sea vehicles and the space, power and nuclear industries. It is validated by BAE and Boeing technicians that the tool reduces the time to replace a High torque rivet by > 50% with a greater than > 75% reduction in potential for damage to holes / panels. The skill level required for Rivet replacement has reduced further allowing for greater cost benefit.

Hacknet by Team Fractal Alligator

Hacknet is a modern, super immersive terminal-driven hacking game with a fully internally-consistent network simulation and an interface so real you shouldn't play it in an airport. It follows the story of recently deceased hacker "Bit", whose death may not be the 'accident' the media reports. You stand in for no one, as most games have you do - play for yourself, make your own decisions, and see the world react - if you're leaving a trace that is. Hacknet has no protagonist, other than the person using it. Don't be reckless though - it's more real than you think.
Design Challenge
Representations of computer hacking in videogames were falling behind. While the topic was more popular than ever in other kinds of media (the success found by the TV show “Mr. Robot” being an excellent case of this), videogame representations have been consistently primitive, and too abstracted from the subject to capture what other mediums were showing so well. Before Hacknet, the last highly successful and well regarded hacking sim was “Uplink” – released in 2001, which has since become dated, and loses some magic to modern understandings of technology. The niche was there to be satisfied.
Design Solution
Hacknet was designed around the idea of a “0th” person game. Contrary to popular narrative perspectives of 1st or 3rd person, Hacknet would use the perspective of the player themselves, sitting in front of their computer, engaging with the game as the direct character in the story. Combining this with educational aspects that would teach players real terminal commands, and use them to have players navigate the world and it’s systems in a realistic way, Hacknet would be unrivalled in Its sense of immersion. Building on this platform of immersion, Hacknet uses a meticulously crafted soundtrack from 8 different artists, and a carefully constructed narrative to truly draw players in, and give them a true hacker experience
Design Impact
Commercially, Hacknet has sold over half a million copies (>95% internationally), funding itself, its expansion, and the studio Team Fractal Alligator. In critical response, well regarded games media site Rock Paper Shotgun listed it at #2 in their list of the 10 best Hacking games of all time (https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2017/11/29/best-hacking-games/2/). On its year of release, many critics placed it in their top 10 games of the year (https://www.giantbomb.com/articles/jeff-gerstmanns-top-10-games-of-2015/1100-5327/). The critical response continued with the 2017 expansion “Labyrinths”. Gamespot called it “one of the most original and exciting games in years”. While Hacknet has never dipped below a 90% positive rating score, Labyrinths maintained an almost impossible 100% positive steam review score for the first 6 months of its life, and has never seen below 98%.

Updates to Hacknet to add in support for Mac and Linux and translations to 10 new languages kept sales up across several years. After the launch of Labyrinths, “Extensions” were added to Hacknet. This was a series of tools for players to create their own stories and experiences within the Hacknet platform. The tutorial for this was a playable experience that had players opening up the file structure of the game itself to understand how it works to proceed, teaching them about the files and how to customize them in the process. This built a strong community of extension developers, who continue to create new content for the game to this day – freeing up the Team Fractal developers to work on new projects, while Hacknet sustains itself. The educational aspects of Hacknet that were so effective at building immersion in the base game have also found a use in schools and colleges teaching programming and cyber security. Along with the customization tools that Extensions provided, Hacknet has a second application as an educational game that is continuing to be developed. Hacknet won the 2015 Australian Game Developer Innovation award, and Labyrinths won it again in 2017. It was a finalist for excellence in Narrative in BIG festival in Brazil, excellence in game design at BIC Festival in Korea, Excellence in Tech at Freeplay in Melbourne, and won the Serious Games Showcase and Challenge 2015 indie award for its educational applications.

The Kyron Kronos is an ultra-fidelity home stereo system like no other. A complete plug and play home music system that brings you closer to the music than previously possible. By removing the speaker box enclosure, we have created a sound that is amazingly pure, while allowing a unique sculptural form that is striking and beautiful.
Design Challenge
In the rarefied world of high end audio, loudspeaker designers typically concentrate on creating scaled up versions of smaller designs. This creates technical issues that cause these ‘flagship’ products to underperform in many areas when compared to the cheaper versions and creates a product so large that it is impossible to integrate them into a living environment. Add to this the multiple amplifiers, preamplifiers and connecting cables one can see why high end sound has only been enjoyed by enthusiasts. The challenge was to create a complete system that could overcome the technical limitations of large, multiway box speakers to deliver easy to use, true ultra fidelity sound, whilst designing a sculptural aesthetic that would integrate into the living environment.
Design Solution
Kyron started by removing the speaker box enclosure to give a more natural, open and true to life sound. We use cutting edge digital audio technology including linear-phase crossovers, , frequency response, phase and room correction. The signal then travels directly to our own proprietary electronics that allow the woofers to be used without a box. We replaced the multiple amplifier boxes with one 'control unit'. This connects to each speaker with a single cable, operated with an easy to use remote control. We sourced the latest audio technology from all over the globe to allow for a small form factor and shaped the aesthetic to bring interest and sculptural lines, highlighting the open backed architecture of the loudspeaker.
Design Impact
Kronos has won numerous awards since the launch including Sound + Image Magazine’s ‘Best Loudspeaker over $20,000 and ‘Best Sound at Show’ at international audio trade show events in Australia and the United States. Audio journalists have praised the sound quality and rated it as among the best they have ever heard. The ability to tailor the look through our bespoke option service has allowed Kronos to integrate into ultra modern living rooms through to classic past century homes with equal refinement..

Each Kyron Audio Kronos is built to order and hand assembled in Adelaide, Australia. Philmac Compression Fittings for Gas

Establishing a partnership with a North American pipe and fittings supplier, Philmac developed a range of unique plastic gas compression fittings for North American polyethylene pipe to supply gas from the main supply line to the home, to any outside appliances that require gas. The fittings are suitable for appliances such as BBQ’s / Heaters / Fire Pits / Pools etc. This is the first application of this kind in the North American market which has allowed us to increase our recognition and create a product that has a unique point of difference.
Design Challenge
North American pipe and fittings supplier approached Philmac to develop a compression fitting to complement their polyethylene pipe. A major challenge for us has been complying with the American performance standards as well as American material standards as we had material that had never been approved before. Meeting packaging requirements of retail stores has also been a challenge. However, working in partnership with our North American partner we were able to identify the performance attributes the product would need to deliver including which approvals standard it needed to meet. We had a clear understanding of target costs, who our target users were and what products they were currently using, from this we created a design brief to address these issues.
Design Solution
Philmac developed a range of compression fittings designed to suit the unique requirements of this application. The material selected passed stringent North American gas standards. We adjusted the dimensional modifications to meet North American polyethylene gas pipe sizing. We also modified the nut design to improve ergonomics for hand tightening. The internal compression chamber was modified to reduce torque required to fully tighten the nut. Also, we specially designed the internal stiffener for the pipe to ensure joint strength exceeds pipe strength. This has resulted in a range of compression fittings which have now been launched into the American market. They are the first plastic compression fittings of this type to be used for gas plumbing applications in North America making them truly ground-breaking.

The final product has resulted in a solution for the customer which is faster to install, is less expensive, recyclable, does not require any special installation tools and meets all relevant North American gas standards. A distribution agreement has been reached with a major retailer in North America and will result in the product reaching over 500 retail outlets during 2018 increasing to almost 900 during 2019. There are a number of other distribution outlets interested in the product as it presents a simple and cost effective way of plumbing up your gas products. Sales in 2018 will be close to $1million rising to over $5million per annum within 5 years.

In the development of the product, design played an essential part not only in the mechanics of the fitting, but also its look and feel. As mentioned we worked closely with our North American partner and identified key features that the fitting would need to deliver which formed part of the design brief. Metal fittings tend to corrode, therefore Philmac created the plastic fitting which is our point of difference. The fitting also had to incorporate design features in its appearance including an ergonomic nut design but also a yellow colour to strongly identify it with its application. Philmac have now trademarked the use of yellow colour with gas fittings in North America which has allow us to gain higher recognition of our company. In addition, as the fitting is being sold in a retail environment the a whole suite of packaging including retail bags and cartons were designed to present the product in the most effective manner on the shelf. Philmac have been active in export markets for some time now and success has come through working closely with a customer to deliver a product that meets their needs. In the export environment Philmac are about delivering tailor made products that meet specific design requirements developed in conjunction with our customers. The North American gas fitting is a prime example of this and given the positive feedback and sales already achieved there are a number of further gas projects being assessed for development at Philmac.

Design Challenge
The mentality of waste is a vestige of the 20th century. A former colleague of mine had a quarry in Carrara, it had been in the family for generations and he lamented about how they were running out of marble. I had never considered it a finite material, so I made this the point of departure for the project. Originally designed for an exhibition in Milan it was later picked up and sold through a Milanese design gallery.
Design Solution
The first thing I did on my next trip to Europe was to visit Carrara. From the workshops that have not changed in 500 years where they replicated statues using pantographs, to the high tech 5 axis CNC robots that can cut any digital for, to the quarries and hollowed out mountains. I chose to work with machines fit for the form I had in already defined in 3d CAD, a stone lathe and a type of diamond bandsaw. In a strange backward process, we picked a piece of Marble to match the digital rendering I had made.
Design Impact
As the product was made and sold overseas, the design itself was the export.Originally exhibited during the Salone del Mobile in Milan, this project gained wide exposure and was critically acclaimed. This led to representation and a production contract with the gallery L’eclettico. The product makes a strong environmental statement as it celebrates quality, longevity and optimal material use.
Other Key Features
This design result required intensive iterations of research, sketching and 3d validation. I chose to work with marble early one, but once I had decided that it was to be about material optimisation, the project quickly fell into place. Framing the scope of the project was half the battle. While this project was a commercial success, the doors it opened were of more value.

Dark Thorn Clothing is an Australian Made timeless clothing line inspired by times past. It focusses on natural fabrics sourced from Australian wholesalers with an attention to detail. It does not follow trends and has its own personality making Dark Thorn unique and desirable.
Design Challenge
Dark Thorn was established after the designer, Tori-Anne couldn’t find anything she liked to personally wear that wasn’t cheap or produced horribly, often resulting in rips, holes and garments that eventually saw the trash can. She knew she wasn’t the only one having this problem, so decided to create a label that focussed on Victorian Era inspired clothing made from high quality fabrics and craftsmanship. Rather than spending money on garments that eventually were discarded, she wanted to create a label that clients could invent in that focussed on detailed garments made to last a lifetime timelessly in your wardrobe.
Design Solution
Dark Thorn prides itself in remaining Australian made and producing high quality timeless garments. Only small production runs if each design is available making each garment special to every client. We promote the importance of quality over quantity and supporting Australian made and small business wherever you can. Dark Thorn provokes a feeling, it tells a story and it makes the client want to be a part of that story. Each garment is a piece of art and it helps the women who wear the garments feel empowered and strong.

Socially, Dark Thorn has created a world of wonder and mystique, creating and evoking a feeling and a story that when a client wears a piece of Dark Thorn they feel like they have transported into the Dark Thorn world. Environmentally Dark Thorn prides themselves in supporting slow fashion and investing in low impact high quality garments. Many years ago, fast fashion never existed, quality garments were purchased knowing the person would wear that garment repeatedly. Dark Thorn strives to bring back that feeling, that era of personal style.

Currently we have had no returns from international customers showing that every customer is satisfied with their order. Many post about their purchases on their social media accounts boasting about how beautiful their purchase is. We supply a 10% discount code with every purchase to encourage customers to return to purchase that second garment they have been eyeing off. Dark Thorn has been invited to participate and showcase their new collection during Paris Fashion Week in September/October 2018. There is also an influx of international social media bloggers posting about Dark Thorn to their accounts that have between 40,000 and 200,000 followers. These influencers include Oliviaemilyx, Threnodyinvelvet and poisonappleprintshop. Dark Thorn is currently an ecommerce business exporting all around the world. Currently 60% of online traffic come from the United Kingdom and the United States (36% United Kingdom and 24% United States) while Australia comes in at 13% and the rest is taken by Canada and Germany. Dark Thorn is looking at reducing the shipping costs to international customers so we are now focussing on stockists in these areas. This will help with sales conversions. After Paris there will be a trip to the United States to scout potential stockists for Dark Thorn.

Design for high end audio encompasses areas that are often ignored, as typical audio enthusiasts are quite accepting of design flaws if their primary needs are met. Our design focusses on solving the following challenges; Aesthetic issues of large rectangular speaker boxes and stacks of electronics to drive them. Matching of components from different manufacturers with no strict audio specifications. Connecting cables and other accessories often costing thousands then need to be matched to the components. Better sound quality. Put simply, we focus on ease and enjoyment for the customer in the buying, installation and in use at home stages.
Design Solution
The range of products from Kyron are designed to offer best in world sound quality, be easy to use, easy to buy and a joy to own. Our customers rate the ownership experience with Kyron as highly or more highly than the impeccable sound quality that initially drew them to Kyron. The design of not just the products, but also the customer journey creates an experience that is high end from first contact through to becoming brand ambassadors. As a result of our successes across the board, we have been able to open a manufacturing and assembly facility in China. Here, products that have been strategically designed by us are being cost-effectively produced to the highest standard. Our strategy to keep manufacturing costs low has meant we have been able to create more high value jobs in Australia, effectively doubling our full-time skilled workforce. We are also able to provide a return on investment for our stakeholders which encourages ongoing product development and innovation.

Design Challenge
After 15 years overseas, I returned to set up my own business and found the professional landscape in Adelaide to be very different to that of Europe. Where Australian industrial design has traditionally been defined by a practical inventiveness, in Europe there is a strong cultural element which leads to a more sophisticated result. International design hubs like Milan or London provide access to a large client base, but the scope of design in Australia is limited. In order to be globally competitive, an Adelaide based design studio needs to find new ways to do business.
Design Solution
Whilst with offering consulting and engaging in brand collaborations, I soon found that the most dynamic part of the business was in design driven innovation. I would define this as applying design thinking strategically in order to realise a product vision. Tapping into the now vibrant start up environment in Adelaide enabled me to mix the skills I learnt in Europe with an entrepreneurial approach.
Design Impact
The impact of this strategy has led to the develop of new business opportunities. For example, the development of new products for the fragrance industry using microfluidics, a technology usually associated with the biotech sector. Based on an unmet niche I identified from previous experience, and driven by curiosity, I initiated an exploration into microfluidics. This led to an understanding of how to design with the technology and resulted in a provisional patent. A prototype was developed with the FII (Future Industries Institute) and ANFF-SA (South Australian node of the Australian National Fabrication Facility).Armed with knowledge, designs, prototypes and IP, I have been in licensing agreements with international clients in Japan, Europe and the United States.

This design centric approach is a more empowered way to work as a designer, as it involves far more than responding to a brief, it also involves the strategic formulation of a brief on the fly. I originally began working with Monash University, but discovered that the ANFF-SA node was by far the best facility in Australia for microfluidic research and development. Licensing to Japan has been made amoother by the fact the ANFF has an agreement with Japanese company ULVAC to use their equipment.

Genotyping for Primary Industries and Plant and Animal Breeding by Concierge Genetics

Our service extends across a wide range of samples, from plants to animals utilising the best trait selection technologies. Does your breeding objective incorporate parentage, EBVs and genes of known economic importance or genetic defect elimination?
Design Challenge
Many small scale farmers and breeders are not applying the advancements in breeding technology and knowledge that is produced by government funded research projects. The high cost and expertise to deliver genotyping is simply not affordable for smaller scale breeders and information on the advantages of incorporating genotyping into breeding practices is not effectively communicated. Small breeders also can’t afford to have an in-house geneticist and without this genotyping can seem complicated and out of reach.
Design Solution
Concierge genetics offers a range of genotyping services that can be tailored to meet the customer’s needs. Because our partner lab has a board range of platforms for research we can apply multiple different technologies that are available and best suit our clients’ breeding objectives. This reduces the cost and allows us to be flexible and continue to meet the customer’s needs as their business grows. Concierge Genetics is also able to provide data analysis and interpretation essentially becoming their ‘in-house geneticist’ making it easy to understand for those with little to no understanding of genetics.
Design Impact
AgriTech is becoming increasingly valuable and Concierge Genetics has the potential for widespread impact in the agriculture sector. Making genotyping accessible and affordable for all farmers will increase their productivity, profits, and the big data collected will facilitate R&D investment into using genetics to solve existing and future challenges. In the same way humans are vaccinated to protect against the outbreak of disease, plant and animals can have naturally occurring resistance to diseases. However, not all individuals carry these resistance genes so the disease has the opportunity to become established and cause widespread devastation (eg. Banana Panama Disease). Genotyping means we can check and make sure all the individuals have resistance and thereby blocking the opportunity for diseases to enter.

Very few people globally are fortunate enough to have the experience and expertise of developing a high scale laboratory and a revolutionary speedbreeding program for cereals. Our founder and managing director is one such person, who has always applied science, technology and design thinking to his roles. As a leader in the advancements of genomic technologies for breeding industries, this has seen him travel the world as a consultant. The know-how has formed the backbone of his partnership with Adelaide’s world-class human genetics research group allowing Concierge Genetics to access this technology for plant and animal breeders and farmers.
