Voxon Photonics has created the world's most advanced 3D volumetric display, the VX1. Our 3D Volumetric technology brings digital content to life and helps empower people to visualise, communicate, learn and have fun in a collaborative manner with no barrier to the 3D experience. No special glasses are required.
2: DESIGN CHALLENGE:
Voxon set out to create what science fiction had always promised, true 3D 'holograms'. After many years of research and development, Voxon created a 3D volumetric display. The challenge was to find the perfect application and form factor for Voxon's first commercial product. Viewing Voxon's volumetric display is mesmerising, interactive and the social and engaging nature of the technology is perfect for education. We created the VX1 so that it could be viewed from all angles and whether it be mathematics, science, health, design, coding, geography, space or engineering in 3D, Voxon's VX1 is engaging, collaborative and perfect for education and improving learning outcomes
3: DESIGN SOLUTION:
The VX1 is designed to be truly social and viewable from all angles. The unique and captivating visual appearance of true volumetric data, along with the interactive nature of being able to move around images in a group without wearing special glasses, makes Voxon Photonics’ technology perfect for the education sector and engaging with students. It also had to be something that was easy to use and intuitive. A windows based small form factor touchscreen pc was added into the design. Along with wireless keyboard and 3D mouse, the VX1 could be turned on and used by teachers or students alike. It is just easy. Now you can view 3D files in true 3d in front of you.
4: DESIGN IMPACT:
We have now sold the VX1 volumetric display into more than 20 countries with amazing feedback being received about the the product from businesses, universities and schools. Voxon has sold the majority of the VX1's overseas, with large businesses such as Harvard, MIT, Toyota, LMVH and Ericsson being just some of the happy customers. Voxon has created a product that can work well across a number of different markets, however the Voxon VX1 is perfect for education. Education using the Voxon VX1 volumetric display is not only engaging, it is mesmerising.
5: OTHER KEY FEATURES:
Voxon's software development for the VX1 has also been important. A Unity plugin was developed for the VX1 so that Unity users and schools students could easily create content for the VX1. Fles types supported were also expanded to support STL and OBJ files which are common in 3D printing and 3D modelling amongst others. All of those drove growth within the Voxon team with the team size going from 2 to 16. Export success of the VX1 and Voxon's future products will help drive SA's resurgence as a tech hub, along with being a leader in the gaming industry.
